DescriptionThanks him for sending panier of moiré metallique and discusses payment, the ladies are delighted with it and have sent it as a present to Princess Elizabeth, where it met with the great approbation of the Royal Family being the first peice of moiré metallique they had seen. Discusses death of poor Burckhardt in Cairo. Has no objection to Jomard having a cast of the head of Memnon when it arrives. Cannot see any reason to renew observations at the Shetland Isles. Is sending razors made of wootz. Discusses plans for expedition to Polar regions - only one scientific man has been found to go, Mr Sabine, who is well spoken of by Kater. Has just seen Treuttel and Wurtz who live next to him in the Sqaure and has asked them to transmit books to Paris and to receive them.
