TitleCopy Letter to Sir Clements Markham, 21 Eccleston Square
Date28 March 1903
DescriptionLetter details how Scott is desirous of reaching Lyttelton this season. The present postition is unsuited for more extended operations, work will be continued if the ice breaks up too late for the return to the north. It is noted that a relief ship will be imperative next season. All on board volunteers are in good health and the their spirits are very high. The 'Discovery' is in excellent condition.

Mulock volunteered for service in the 'Discovery'. There were grave doubts of 'Discovery's' release this season, shortness of provisions did not feel justified in extending cruise and risking detention in ice conduct of ships.
