TitlePrinted minute from a meeting of the Royal Society Council held on 28 May 1903
Date28 May 1903
DescriptionReported at Council that it was now 'almost certain' that the 'Discovery' would remain in the Antarctic for another winter. A letter from the President of the Society [William Huggins] and the Royal Geographical Society [Clements Markham] to the First Lord of the Treasury [Arthur James Balfour] was sent on 19 May, to request a grant for a further relief ship. A copy of the text of the letter is included. As a result of the letter, Balfour raised a complaint about the Royal Society in connection with the Antarctic Expedition in Parliament. The President will write to him to request an interview to discuss this matter.
