TitleCopy letter from M. [Charles] Lallemand, Directeur du Service du Novellement general de la France [Director of the General Levelling Service of France], to Colonel [Charles Frederick Arden] Close, Director General of the Ordnance Survey Office, British Delegate to the International Geodetic Association
Date6 December 1917
DescriptionLetter comes with a preface: 'Copy of letter forwarded by the Board of Agriculture which requests the views of the Royal Society upon the proposals'.

[Main body of the letter is in French.]

Informs Colonel [Charles Frederick Arden] Close that the International Geodetic Association expired in 1916, and discusses re-establishing a Geodetic Association by the countries of the Entente [Allies of World War One]. Thinks that Germany's historical precedence in the Geodetic Association seems inadmissable. Discusses Germany's criminal conduct during this war and states that though these actions Germany has scratched itself off the list of civilised countries. Suggests drawing up a good draft for a new Association, and submitting it to a special conference, which they intend to convene as soon as circumstances permit.
