DescriptionLetter regarding the loan of the 2.5 metre standard and accompanying apparatus from the Russian Government, for the purposes of the geodetic survey expedition in North-Eastern Rhodesia [Zambia], which has arrived back in St Petersburg badly damaged. Encloses copies of letters sent from the British South Africa Company to Messrs. Troughton and Simms. Explains how the instruments were packed, and notes that Messrs. Troughton and Simms are at a loss to explain the reported damage. Explains that Messrs. Van Oppen and Co., who covered the shipping process, would like more information about the damage before they contact the insurance policy.
