1. 'Minutes of the meting held on 8 December 1955 and of opinions obtained by correspondence in December 1955 and February 1960 were confirmed.

2. Mackinnon Research Studentship
The Committee had before it nine applications for the Mackinnon Research Studentship (PSR/1(60)) previously circulated. It was reported that thirty five applications had been received but, after consultation with the Chairman, twenty six had been eliminated as not being worthy of final consideration. The Committee then considered the nine remaining candidates and, detailed consideration having been given to the applications from D T Edmonds, W Fong, R R Hillier, and A Howie, D T Edmonds was elected with A Howie as proxime accessit.
Resolved - that it be recommended to Council that a Mackinnon Research Studentship at an initial stipend of £950, rising to £1050 after one year, together with superannuation, children's allowances and grant for reprints (£10 per annum) be awarded for two years in the first instance from 1 October 1960 to Dr D T Edmonds to enable him to carry out magnetic investigation below 1degree K in large magnetic fields at the Clarendon Laboratory, Oxford, and that Mr A Howie be regarded as Proxime accessit.

3. Dr C J Waddington, Mackinnon Reserch Student.
The Committee noted a report by Dr C J Waddington on his research for the year ended 30 September 1959, which was contained on pages 31-32 of the Roya Society Reports on Researches for the yer ended 30 September 1959 (previously circulated).

4. Membership of Committee
The Committee noted a lettr from Profesor W W Rogosinski asking to be allowed to resign his membership of the Committee now that he was resident abroad and it was Resolved - that it be recommended to Council that Professor G Temple be appointed a member of the Physical Sciences Research Committee in place of Professor W W Rogosinski. '
