Present; The President in the Chair, Dr Carpenter, Dr Hooker, Mr Gwyn Jeffereys, Admiral Richards, Mr Siemans, Mr Spottiswoode, Professor Stokes, Mr Wallace

Resolution of Council was read, together with the letter from the Admiralty of 2 March 1872 to which it referred. re provision of a ship and suggestions for scientifc equipment and staff.

Committee added Dr Allman to the Committee.

Committee was informed that £2000 assigned to the salaries of civilian staff.

Resolved that Dr Wyville Thomson to be Director of the civilian scientific staff, and to be paid £1000
