1. Read the Minute of the meeting of Council on 20 January 1916 appointing the Committee following the Board of Trade regulation under which analytical, consulting and research chemists are not allowed to be called up for service with the Colours without the consent of th Royal Society

2. Draft of a letter presented as a reply to applicants for information on the subject of reference to this Committee was read and approved.

3. Resolved that ' Professor Frankland and Professor Schuster (Secretary of the Royal Society) as a Secretary of the Society, have power to deal with straightforward cases brought before the Society, consulting, if necessary, with other members of the Committee, and reporting cases dealt with to the Committee when it meets. '

4. Further agreed that ' Professors Frankland and Schuster have power to give immediate assurance to applicants who should appeal directly to the Society in cases in which it is obvious that the Society would not consent to their being enlisted. '

5. Agreed that ' meetings of the Committee should be summoned only for the consideration fo special questions. '

6. Aafter discussion it was agreed that the seeking of an extension of the Society's powers to cases of laboratory attendants, who form a separate group in the reserved occupations schedule, was not desirable.

7. Decisions made on the following cases;
7.1 J W Nicholls, an analytical food chemist, employed by Mr A W Stoke of 179, Edgware Road, subnitted by the military representative of the Recruiting authority at St Pancras. Consent refused after statement from Mr Chapman
7.2 A W Stewart, D.Sc. analytical chemist, submitted by the Honorary Secretary of teh Holborn Recruiting Office. Consent refused subjet to enquiry by Dr A Scott.
7.3 W H Nuttall, chemists to the Cooper Laboratory for Economic Research. Supported by Mr cooper. Consent refused.
7.4 C Machen Submitted by Messrs Newton, Chambers and Co,' as desirous of serving and as able to be spared from their works. Agreed that the writers be informed that the reply already given to the applicant is confirmed, namely, that it is the duty of the local recruiting officer or local tribunal to obtain the consent of the Royal Society to the enlistment of any analytical chemists who wishes, with his employers concurrence, to enlist. '
7.5 C W Fulton. Submitted by Profesor H B Baker. ' Agreed that this was not a case in which the Royal Society can intervene. '
