1. Minutes of the previous meeting read and signed.

2. After discussing the effect of teh Military Service Act upon the position of those chemists whom the Committee are empowered to reserve under teh Regulations of the Board of Trade, it was Resolved that a notice should be sent to the Editors of the Chemical News, Chenmical Trades Journal, Journal of Chemical Industry and Nature, as well as to the Secretaries of all the Chemical Societies requesting it be given prominence.

The notice read ' In order to clear up any misunderstanding that may arise in consequence of recent legislation concerning reserved occupations, the Royal Society desire to point out that any unmarried chemist of military age entitled to exemption as an analytical, consulting or research chemist should, unless he has attested before March 2nd, lodge a claim for exemption with the Local Tribunals before that date.

Men who have attested should lodge their claim for exemption with the recruiting officer or Local Tribunal when called up for enlistment, and, if such claim be not admitted, a communication stating all material facts in favour of the claim should at once be addressed to teh Secretaries of the Royal Society, Burlington House, Piccadilly, London, W. '

An application on behalf of A E Salmon, employed by Mr Stead Hunt at Handforth was laid before the Committee and referred for further enquiry as to his qualifications.
