1. ' Minutes of the previous meeting were read and signed.
2. Read a letter from the Local Government Board, stating that the Royal Society's powers under the List of Certified Occupations extended to the men of the new military age, and had not been altered except in so far as men affected by the Proclamation dated April 20th were concerned (ie withdrawing exemptions of men under 23). After discussion upon the Resolutions passed by the War Committee under which this Committee at present acts, it was Resolved to ask the War Committee to amend their Resolutions, so that it may be possible (1) to recommend men for exemption if engaged on work of national importance in connection with the maitenance of the industries of the country, without reference to the War Executive Committee; and (2) to recommend men of the new military age for exemption if not actually engaged on work of national importance, provided they were prepared to put thier services at the disposal of the Country.
3. Six applications for exemption then dealt with; 3.1 A E Case Aged 39 recommended for exemption under Resolution 1 3.2 S H Higgins Aged 34 recommended for exemption under Resolution 1 3.2 F O'Brien Aged 45 recommended for exemption under Resolution 2 3.3 G Senter Aged 44 recommended for exemption under Resolution 2 3.4 R H Jones Aged 41 recommended for exemption under Resolution 2 3.5 H F Knight Aged 35 confirm recommendation for exemption under Resolution 1 given previously
4. Applicatins dealt with since the last meeting; A. First applications; Of 66 fresh applications received; 19 refused 47 granted - 37 under Resolution 1; 1 under Resolution 2; 9 under Resolution 3
B. Applications for confirmation of previous recommendations; Of 49 applications for renewal; 46 were confirmed and renewed; 3 previous recommendations were withdrawn. ' |
