Commencing with a list of Council members present: Dr. John Bostock; John George Children; Samuel Hunter Christie; John Frederick Daniell; Sir Philip Egerton; William Haseldine Pepys; Stephen Peter Rigaud; Peter Mark Roget; John Forbes Royle; Captain William Henry Smyth; Charles Wheatstone; the Vice-President, William Cavendish, Earl of Burlington, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. List of subject committees with members ballotted and elected: Committee of Mathematics; Committee of Physics; Committee of Chemistry; Committee of Astronomy; Committee of Meteorology; Committee of Geology and Mineralogy; Committee of Botany and Vegetable Physiology; Committee of Zoology and Animal Physiology. Mr. Ivory's paper on theory of astronomical refractions to be Bakerian Lecture for the present year.
