Commencing with a list of Council members present: John Couch Adams; Thomas Bell; John Joseph Bennett; Sir Benjamin Brodie; Samuel Hunter Christie; William Robert Grove; Gideon Mantell; Dr William Allen Miller; Reverend Henry Moseley; Richard Owen; Sir Jonathan Frederick Pollock; Lieutenant Colonel William Reid; George Rennie; Dr Peter Roget; Charles Wheatstone; the Vice President, Sir Roderick Impey Murchison, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: The Committee on Classified Lists has nearly completed their work listing Fellows and has completed lists of distinguished foreigners who are potential candidates for Foreign Member. A letter from Thomas Wharton Jones (letter not reproduced in the minutes) regarding publication of the appendix of Dr [Augustus Volney] Waller's paper on the Papillae of the Tongue. A letter from Dr Baxter requesting financial aid for physiological investigations (letter not reproduced in minutes).
