Commencing with a list of Council members present: Thomas Bell; Sir Benjamin Brodie; Samuel Hunter Christie; Dr John Forbes; William Robert Grove; Gideon Mantell; Dr William Allen Miller; Sir Roderick Impey Murchison; Sir Jonathan Frederick Pollock; George Rennie; Dr Peter Roget; Lieutenant Colonel Edward Sabine; Charles Wheatstone; the President [William Parsons] Earl of Rosse in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: Adopted the suggestion of the Committee of Recommendations for the application of the Government Grant that a committee of three be appointed to decide on the best application of the funds.
