Commencing with a list of Council members present: Frederick Augustus Abel; Jacob Lockhart Clarke; John Evans; Captain Douglas Galton; John Peter Gassiot; John Hall Gladstone; William Huggins; Thomas Henry Huxley; William Allen Miller; William Hallows Miller; William Sharpey; Colonel William James Smythe; George Gabriel Stokes; Colonel Alexander Strange; Thomas Thomson; the President, Lieutenant-General Edward Sabine, in the Chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting read and approved. Letter from C.W. Freemantle, 10 Downing Street, Whitehall, 22 June 1868, to Sir Henry Holland, full text entered into the minutes: Mr. Disraeli believes that a monument for Michael Faraday is a proper use of public funds, but that estimates for the current year had passed; however consideration may safely be left to next year. Memorandum enclosed in a letter of Sir Francis Grant, 24 June 1868, to Edward Sabine, full text entered into the minutes: on temporary arrangements for Burlington House; with answering resolutions from the Royal Society. Letter from Messrs. Banks and Barry was read: Mr. White instructed to remove and store paintings, but that the architects to be informed that it was not practicable to allow the present room to be pulled down until a temporary room is available to store books and these could not be removed until mid-September. Letter from Mr. Odling, Secretary of the Chemical Society, suggesting that they confer on the subject of intercommunication of societies within Burlington House: the reply to be that Council would consider proposals that did not interfere with the Architects' plans. Letter from P.MacDowell requesting the loan of the Royal Society's bust of Cuvier for the execution of a statue for the new University of London building: the reply to be that the Society would not lend the bust, but Mr. MacDowell might make use of it at the Society's apartments. Proceedings granted to the Naturwischenschaftlicher Verein of Bremen. The Treasurer authorised to pay Messrs. Asher and Company's bill for books. Bill for payment, for wood engraving and lithography.
