DescriptionPrinted minutes containing matters laid before Council, the Royal Society's governing body of Fellows, with records of decisions taken.

Commencing with a list of Council members present: Jacob Lockhart Clarke; John Evans; Captain Douglas Galton; John Peter Gassiot; John Hall Gladstone; William Huggins; William Hallows Miller; Lieutenant-General Edward Sabine; William Sharpey; George Gabriel Stokes; Colonel Alexander Strange; the Treasurer and Vice-President, William Allen Miller, in the Chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting read and approved. Report of the auditors of the Treasurer's accounts. Letters from Isaac Fletcher and J.W. Kaye, explaining why they had not paid their annual subscriptions: the reasons were deemed satisfactory by Council. The Reverend T. Simpson Evans appointed Fairchild Lecturer for the ensuing year. The second volume of the Catalogue of Scientific Papers was tabled. The Treasurer reported on the safe return of paintings from the Leeds exhibition.
