Commencing with a list of Council members present: the Reverend John Barlow; Thomas Bell; Edward Frankland; John Peter Gassiot; Philip Hardwick; William Hallows Miller; Sir Roderick Impey Murchison; Major-General Edward Sabine; William Sharpey; Archibald Smith; George Gabriel Stokes; Charles Wheatstone; the President, Benjamin Collins Brodie in the Chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting read and approved. Report of the Auditors of the Treasurer's accounts. Letter from Wilhelm E. Weber returing thanks for the award of the Copley Medal. The Reverend T. Simpson appointed Fairchild Lecturer for 1860. Letter from the Under Secretary of War, requesting the use of space in Burlington House for examinations for the Medical Department of the Army: agreed that the Great Hall and Ante-room be placed at their disposal. supposing this did not interfere with Royal Society meetings. Robert Patterson applied for an extension of time for admission to the Fellowship, granted. Letter from William Spottiswoode requesting to make extracts from his paper of 1854 deposited in the archives, granted. Sir Roderick Murchison stated the reasons for the non-payment of annual subscription by Mr. S.P. Pratt and it was resolved that Mr. Pratt be not declared a defaulter.
