DescriptionPrinted minutes containing matters laid before Council, the Royal Society's governing body of Fellows, with records of decisions taken.

Commencing with a list of Council members present: Sir George Back; the Reverend John Barlow; Arthur Cayley; William Hallows Miller; William Sharpey; George Gabriel Stokes; Alexander William Williamson; the Reverend Robert Willis; John Wrottesley, 2nd Baron Wrottesley; Colonel Philip Yorke; the President, Benjamin Collins Brodie in the Chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting read and approved. Report of the Government Grant Committee in the form of minutes of the meeting of 27 January 1860, full text entered into the minutes: list of applications for grants, with recommendations for grant allocations; letter from Warren De La Rue accounting for expenditure on the Huygens object glasses and requesting if he should return unspent grant or apply it to celestial photography; resolved that he should pay back the grant. The President announced that the Earl of Rosse had presented his portrait by Mr. Catterson Smith of Dublin and that this would be hung in the Meeting Room. Bill for payment, for specifications of bookcases.
