Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting read and approved. The corporate seal of the Royal Society was affixed to a power of attorney enabling the Society's bankers to receive dividends on new three per cent annuities. General Sabine stated that he has interviewed the President, who placed himself in the hands of Council in respect of the nomination for next year. An application from Mr. Clarence Hopper for permission to copy two letters from the archives, granted. Letter from Lieutenant Rokeby, sending barometer and thermometer observations, transmitted to Admiral Fitzroy. Letter from Mr. Le Neve Foster stating that the Societe d'Encouragement of Paris desired to exchange publications, acceded to. Adjudication of Royal Society Medals: the Copley Medal vote was tied between Professors Agassiz and Bunsen and the decision was adjourned; Royal Medals awarded to William Fairbairn and to Augustus Waller; the Rumford Medal awarded to J. Clerk Maxwell. |
