DescriptionPrinted minutes containing matters laid before Council, the Royal Society's governing body of Fellows, with records of decisions taken.

Commencing with a list of Council members present: John Couch Adams; Sir John Peter Boileau; Arthur Cayley; William Fairbairn; William Farr; Sir Henry Holland; Thomas Henry Huxley; William Hallows Miller; James Paget; Joseph Prestwich; William Sharpey; William Spottiswoode; George Gabriel Stokes; John Tyndall; Alexander William Williamson; Colonel Philip Yorke; the Treasurer and Vice-President, Major-General Edward Sabine in the Chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting read and approved. The corporate seal of the Royal Society was affixed to powers of attorney to allow Messrs. Few to receive dividends arising from the Stevenson Bequest, and to act in matters of enclosure of Old Oak Common at Acton. Letter from Sir John Herschel requesting 200grs. from Dr. Wollaston's palladium, granted. Letter from Edward Smith requesting the use of wood blocks and copper plates from his 1859 Philosophical Transactions paper, and to rectify an error on one of the plates, granted. List of institutions to receive the Proceedings. Report of the Government Grant Committee, in the form of minutes of the meeting of 20 March 1861, full text entered into the minutes: listig applicants, with recommendations to Council on grants to be awarded. Selection of candidates for Fellowship to be recommended to the Society considered and adjourned. Bill for payment, for lithography.
