Commencing with a list of Council members present: Sir George Back; the Reverend John Barlow; Thomas Bell; John Peter Gassiot; Philip Hardwick; Arthur Henfrey; Colonel Henry James; William Hallows Miller; Sir Roderick Impey Murchison; John Percy; Major-General Edward Sabine; William Sharpey; Archibald Smith; George Gabriel Stokes; the Reverend William Whewell; the President, Benjamin Collins Brodie in the Chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting read and approved. Colonel James's motion on including photographs in the Catalogue of Portraits referred to the Library Committee. Letter from J. Cosmo Melville, India Office, 5 April 1859, to William Sharpey, full text entered into the minutes: forwarding an algebraic work on maxima by Babu Ram Chundra of Dehli, superintended by Professor De Morgan; Lord Stanley desires that copies of the book be distributed with the next volume of Philosophical Transactions to be sent abroad, to defray costs and asks if Council will acceed to the request, Council agreeing. Payment of a bill for engraving. List of candidates for election to Fellowship of the Royal Society, to be recommended to the Society.
