DescriptionPrinted minutes containing matters laid before Council, the Royal Society's governing body of Fellows, with records of decisions taken.

Commencing with a list of Council members present: John Couch Adams; Benjamin Guy Babington; George Bowdler Buckton; Sir Philip de Malpas Grey Egerton; William Allen Miller; William Hallows Miller; William Sharpey; George Gabriel Stokes; the President, Major-General Edward Sabine, in the Chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting read and approved. Sir Philip de Malpas Grey Egerton elected a Trustee of Sir John Soane's Museum. The Reverend T.S. Evans appointed Fairchild Lecturer. £10 from the Donation Fund awarded to Mr. W.B. Tegetmeier for experiments in cross-breeding pigeons. Resolution of the Committee for the Scientific Relief Fund to place £25 in the hands of Mr. Busk for the use of Mrs Stanger, widow of Dr. Stanger, geologist and African traveller. Letter from M. von Gumpach addressed to Mr. Stokes was tabled. List of bills for payment, for medals, books, lithography and for legal expenses.
