DescriptionPrinted minutes containing matters laid before Council, the Royal Society's governing body of Fellows, with records of decisions taken.

Commencing with a list of Council members present: Benjamin Guy Babington; George Bowdler Buckton; Warren De La Rue; Captain Douglas Galton; William Allen Miller; William Hallows Miller; Richard Owen; William Sharpey; Henry John Stephen Smith; George Gabriel Stokes; James Joseph Sylvester; the President, Major-General Edward Sabine, in the Chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting read and approved. Report of the auditors of the Treasurer's accounts. The Reverend Henry Stebbing appointed Fairchild Lecturer. Dean Stanley granted an extension of time for admission as a Fellow. Letter from Professor Rymer Jones explaining his reason for failing to pay his subscription; this was deemed satisfactory by Council. Letter from the Treasurer requesting permission to take impressions from plates of his paper on photographic spectra, for publication in the Journal of the Chemical Society, granted. Proceedings to be granted to the Library of the Army Medical Officers at Netley, in exchange for their Reports. On the recommendation of the Committee of the Scientific Relief Fund, £25 placed at the disposal of Dr. J. E. Gray for the use of Miss E.J. Dyke Poore: and £50 placed with Mr. Huxley for the use of Miss Henry, the sister of the late Thomas H. Henry F.R.S. Two vacancies in the Scientific Relief Committee were reported and to be filled at the next meeting of Council. Bill for payment, for law expenses.
