Donnelly, Science and Art Department, London, 24 March 1882, to the President, the Royal Society, full text entered into the minutes: owing to medical advice, Captain Abney would not be able to take part in the proposed solar eclipse expedition to Egypt; the Committee on Solar Physics has suggested Arthur Schuster as a substitute; a draft letter was prepared, to the Principal of Owen's College, Manchester, requesting to release Schuster for the observations and the expedition expenses would be transferred to him for division with Mr. Lockyer, if it was agreed. Lingen, Treasury Chambers, 24 March 1882, to the President of the Royal Society, full text entered into the minutes: on the £4,000 Government Grant for Scientific Investigations with a copy of the estimate enclosed; the Secretary to write to the Treasury suggesting a revised description of the grant. The Treasurer reported that the conveyance for land at Acton had been handed to Mr. Thompson, and sums of money for the sale, £32,207 13s. 7d., had been placed with the Society's bankers, Robarts Lubbock and Company; with a detailed breakdown of the amounts. |
