Date1968-1975
DescriptionFile of Wilkie's refereeing work on a variety of papers by scientific peers on physiology, consisting of correspondence in relation to:

1) A manuscript submitted to the Section on General Physiology of the American Journal of Physiology by Dr. Zierler, May 1968.
2) "The Impulse Momentum and Its Significance in the Force-Velocity Relation to Muscle" by Ronald J. Tallarida, submitted to the Biophysical Journal in 1968.
3) Refereeing request from the University of Illinois Department of Physiology and Biophysics, May 1968.
4) "Isometric Muscle Contraction and the Active State: An Analog Computer Study" by C. P. S. Taylor, December 1968.
5) Referees Report in "Vertebrate Slow Muscle Fibres".
6) Comments on a paper submitted to the Marine Biological Association of the United Kingdom, June 1969.
7) "Oxygen Uptake for Isotonic Twitch Contractions of Dog Skeletal Muscle in Situ", by W. N. Stanley, September 1969.
8) "An Irreversible Thermodynamic Theory of Muscle with Variable Coefficients and Constant Affinity" by W. J. Bornhorst and J. E. Minardi submitted to the Biophysical Journal, July 1969.
9) Report on "The Increase in the rate of heat production of frog's skeletal muscle caused by hypertonic solutions", August 1969.
10) Comments on apparatus used by Dr. Okong'o in his paper, October 1970.
11) Review of "First and Last Experiments in Muscle Mechanics" by A. V. Hill, 1970.
12) "Effect on iodoacetate and nitrogen on total heat production of muscle", by J. T. Fales, September 1970.
13) 'In defence of the high energy phosphate bond', by Colin McClare.
14) "Chemical Thermodynamics of Muscular Contraction", by K. Tawada and F. Oosawa, March 1972.
15) "Force, velocity and mechanical power relationship of human muscle with special reference to sex difference" by Dr. Masahiro Kaneko, March 1972.
16) Wilkie’s report titled ‘Thermodynamic errors in the ‘Glossary of Terms for Thermal Physiology’, by Dr John Bligh, published in the Journal of Applied Physiology, 35, 941-961, and associated correspondence.
17) Barbara E. C. Banks and Wilkie’s identification of an error in a letter on “SI Units and Nutrition” published in The Lancet, 5 April 1975.
18) A request for Wilkie to shed light on a discrepancy in specific sections of Blaxter’s report discussing heat and production of ATP; energy conservation in energy transduction; basal metabolism and physical activity; the increment heat associated with the ingestion of food; fat and protein synthesis; and measurement in energy metabolism studies.
19) Letter from Arthur B. DuBois on metabolism, inluding photocopies of published material.

Also included is Wilkie's review of a research grant application, and letters with detailed comments pertaining to unnamed papers which are missing contextual attachments.
