TitleCorrespondence on thermodynamics between Douglas Robert Wilkie and Anthony C. Legon
CreatorWilkie; Douglas Robert (1922 - 1998); physiologist
Date1973-1974
DescriptionFile of correspondence between Wilkie and Anthony C. Legon, Department of Chemistry, UCL, documenting their exchange of scientific opinion on thermodynamics which begins with Legon's criticism of Wilkie's article "Second Law of Thermodynamics", published in Nature Vol. 242, No 5400, p. 606, disputing that the statement “The only processes that can happen spontaneously are those that can in principle be made to yield work, for example, to lift up a weight”, should be so criticised because of its plausibility and complicity and due to Wilkie's authoritative position. Includes Wilkie’s reply to Legon's criticism, and the ensuing discussion. Also included are copies of the relevant articles and the associated published letters.
