This Gentleman being desirous to become a Member of the Royal Society, & being recommended in the following manner by Several members living at Paris
'We the underwritten Members of the Royal Society of London, Certify that Monsr Pitot is our fellow-member of the Royal Academy of Sciences in the Class of Mechanicks; and that he hath therein distinguisht himself by the excellent Works he hath given on that Subject, in testimony whereof we have Signed the present Certificate. Dated Paris April 2 1740
