Title | Stirling, Edward Hamilton: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Citation | We the undersigned beg to propose Edward Hamilton Stirling Esquire as a Fellow of the Royal Society. Mr Stirling is now residing in Calcutta, and is a Civil Servant of the East India Company on their Bengal establishment. He is a member of the Asiatic Society, of the Agricultural and Horticultural Society of India, and a corresponding member of the Wernerian Society at Edinburgh. This gentleman is a good Oriental scholar, & has travelled in Persia and the Punjab, and through many of the dangerous parts of the Turkistan and Afghanistan [sic] countries, and is the author of "Observations on the political state of the intermediate countries between Persia and India". From our personal knowledge of Mr Stirling we recommend him as likely to become a useful member of the Royal Society |
