The author of Statistal Meteorological papers published in the Memoirs of the Literary and Philosophical Society of Manchester, of a Report on the 'Supply of Water to Towns' published in the Report of the British Association for the Advancement of Science for 1855, and of various Reports on Engineering subjects. The Inventor of a Spherical ball Valve for use in fire cocks, Air valves, and other Water Works apparatus, and the Improver and applier of many simple and useful processes in hydraulic Engineering. Distinguished for his acquaintance with the sciences of Geology, Hydraulics, and Mechanics. Eminent as a Civil Engineer.
