Author of numerous original researches in Chemistry, amongst which are the following: 'Action of Silicon Tetrachloride on Amido-compounds' (Journ Chem Soc Trans, 1887, Dalton Scholarship); 'Beta-nitroso-alpha-naphthylamine' (Annalen, 1889); 'Combination of Chlorine with Carbon Monoxide' (with G Dyson, Journ Chem Soc Trans, 1903); The following on Bio-chemical subjects: 'Chemical Action of B 'coli communis' on Carbohydrates' (ibid, 1901); 'Biological Resolution of Inactive Acids' (with G S Walpole, Proc Roy Soc, 1906); 'Voges and Proskauer's Reaction' (ibid, 1906); 'Autofermentation of Pressed Yeast' (with S Rowland, Journ Chem Soc Trans, 1901); 'Glycogen from Yeast' (with W J Young, ibid, 1902); 'Buchner's Zymase mit Blutserum' (Ber Chem Ges, 1903); 'Ueber Pressaft aus Obergahriger Hefe' (with W J Young, ibid, 1904); 'Alcoholic Ferment of Yeast-Juice' (with W J Young, Proc Roy Soc, 1906); ditto, Part II, 'The Co-ferment of Yeast Juice' (ibid, 1906).
