Citation | Superintendent of the Trigonometrical Survey of India since 1912. Has been engaged on geodetic work continuously since 1888. Has made numerous determinations of the plumb-line. In 1895-1896 he redetermined the longitude of India, observing at Greenwich, Potsdam and Teheran. Was entrusred with the initiation of the pendulum observations in India in 1903, and has carried on this work for the last ten years with conspicuous success; the results obtained have a high geodetic value. Author of numerous reports on geodetic work in India; of 'An Account of the Determination of the Difference in the Value of 'g' at Kew and Greenwich' (Proc Roy Soc A, 1905); and a detailed account of all the gravity determinations which he carried out, 1903-1908. Has made many endeavours to improve the means of making gravity determinations. |
