Title | McBain, James William: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Description | Date stamp on reverse |
Citation | Distinguished as an original worker and teacher in Physical Chemistry. Has carried out important investigations on the properties of silver-tin alloys and on the sorption of various substances by charcoal, but his most striking work deals with the properties and nature of soap solutions. By patient and skilful measurements he has determined very accurately the physico-chemical properties of these solutions and on this basis of fact has built up a valuable theory of 'colloidal electrolytes.' |
