Citation | Joint author of a lengthy investigation on the relation between optical activity and chemical constitution, facilitated by the discovery of a ready method of resolving secondary alcohols, which rendered possible the preparation of many such compounds and their derivatives. The systematic examination of these has revealed new properties of homologous series of carbon compounds. Has materially extended our knowledge of the Walden inversion and of optically active sulphur compounds, particularly of the dissymmetry of sulphoxides. His other important investigations concern chloramine-T, the isomeric methylcyclohexanols, the resolution of terpineol, the structure of carnitine, diphenyl derivatives and organic compounds of selenium. |
