Title | Bengough, Guy Dunstan: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Description | Citation typed |
Citation | Distinguished for his extensive researches on the Theory of Metallic Corrosion. Largely as a result of his work and that of his collaborators the theory has at last been placed on a quantitative basis, as a result of which marked progress in its development has been made. His work has had important applications in the protection against corrosion of condenser tubes, both in power stations and ships. A process worked out by him with J M Stuart on the Anodic Oxidation of Aluminium as a protection against corrosion is now widely used in aircraft construction, and has proved most valuable in use. The protection of magnesium alloys, also used in aircraft construction, by the deposition of selenium, is also due to his investigations. |
