Title | Best, Charles Herbert: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Description | Citation typed |
Citation | Earned, with Banting and later with Collip, an international reputation in connection with the discovery, method of manufacture and physiological effects of insulin. Showed, with others, that given to the eviscerated animal leads to deposition of glycogen in the muscles. Participated in studies concerning the substances responsible for the depressor effects of animal tissues. Of these made an exhaustive study of the distribution and fate of histamine in the body, and, in his most recent work, of the role of choline in the metabolism of fat and carbohydrate, in which choline appears to act as an accessory food factor. |
