Title | Gye, William Ewart: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Citation | Distinguished for pathological researches, especially on malignant tumours. Research during the war on infection by anaerobic spores, and later on effects of silica. Since 1925 has published many important papers on avian malignant tumours. His later work has not fully established early generalizations, but has produced important evidence on the nature of species limitation of avian filterable tumours and of immunity to them. His work has played a leading part in creating interest in the infective factor in malignancy, and has given a world-wide stimulus to such investigations. |
