Citation | Distinguished for observations on, and new interpretations of, courtship and sexual life of birds (PZS, 1912; J Linn S, 1923, etc), and for contributions in Experimental Zoology and Genetics. These include papers on Regeneration in Sponges (Phil Trans, 1911: QJMS, 1921), on Dedifferentiation in Aurelia, Obelia, Echinus, Perophora, Clavellina (QJMS, 1921-1924, etc), on modification of development by temperature gradients, on factors affecting Metamorphosis in Amphibia and Echinus, on Inheritance and Linkage in Gammarus, containing important new results. Of particular interest are 'Genetic rate-factors' (with E B Ford, A Entw M, 1929), and 'Structure and Development of Mutant Eyes' (with A Volsky, Proc Roy Soc, 1934) in Gammarus. Studies on Grow-rate and Heterogenic Growth in Arthropods and Mammals culminated in a book on 'Problems of Relative Growth,' 1932, a valuable and original contribution to general zoology. His recent text-book (with de Beer) on 'The Elements of Experimental Embryology,' 1934, is of great merit. |
