Title | Born, Max: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Citation | Distinguished for his researches in relativity-theory (from 1909), the vibration of crystal lattices and the specific heat of solids (from 1912), optical rotatory power (from 1915), dispersion in anisotropic liquids and scattering of light (from 1916), the application of the lattice theory of crystals to the calculation of chemical energy constants and elastic and electric properties of crystals (from 1918), and quantum-theory (from 1923, with his assistants in Gottingen, Pauli, Heisenberg, and Jordan), specially matrix-mechanics and the quantum theory of collisions. Has recently published a 'principle of reciprocity,' with application to nuclear forces. |
