CitationSince 1921 Liddell has been engaged in developing researches on the Central Nervous System along the lines of Sherrington, more especially on the physiology of the spinal cord and mid brain centres in relation to the activation and control of the muscles of the limbs. He has analysed (a) the states of excitation and inhibition in the central nervous system, (b) various conditions of spinal shock following isolation of the spinal cord from higher nerve centres, (c) the effects of impulses from the cerebellum upon limb posture and movement and (d) muscular rigidity following experimental lesions in the spinal cord and higher centres.
