| Citation | Colebrook's outstanding contribution has been the extension of bacteriological knowledge to clinical conditions. This work has always been characterised by good and well controlled technique.
Colebrook firmly established sulphonamide chemotherapy by his careful work on prontosil and sulphanilamide in puerperal septicaemia, and started world-wide interest in this subject. His earlier work on the transmission of infection in childbirth has greatly influenced midwifery practice. His work on disinfection of the skin was a definite aid to surgery. During the war his researches on treatment of burns and prevention of their infection have been a model of cautious and successful clinical investigation. |
