TitleFeather, Norman: certificate of election to the Royal Society
DescriptionCitation typed
CitationDistinguished for researches in nuclear physics. Obtained the first evidence for disintegrations produced by neutrons. Studied with Chadwick the photo-disintegration of deuterium. Investigated with Nimmo the long range alpha-particles from radio-active bodies. Has carried out extensive researches on beta-ray spectra of radio-active elements and has been largely responsible for standardising the absorption method of determining energy. Has, with Dunworth, applied the coincidence method of counting to the determination of nuclear energy levels, of alpha-ray energies and of very short decay periods. Has written a standard treatise on nuclear physics.
