Description | Citation typed |
Citation | D.Sc. (Leeds), Ph.D. (Cantab) Distinguished for his researches in applied mathematics, especially hydrodynamics. His papers contain new and substantial additions to knowledge in connection with the important problems of the formation of vortices from a surface of discontinuity, streets of vortices, wakes and wind-tunnel interference. Other important investigations deal with earth-tides, variation of latitude, percolation of fluid through ground, boundary-layer growth, thermionic tubes and physical chemistry. During the war he was leader of the team of mathematicians associated with the design, development and practical use of rockets. |
