Title | MacIntosh, Frank Campbell: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Description | Citation typed |
Citation | Distinguished for his researches in physiology and pharmacology. He has made fundamental contributions to our knowledge of junctional transmission in the central and peripheral nervous system by his precise quantitative studies of the factors influencing the storage and release of acetylcholine. His recent discovery with Paton of the histamine liberators throws new light on the physiology of histamine and will lead to a better understanding of allergic phenomena. He has introduced new pharmacological techniques and has added precision to the methods of biological assay particularly for acetylcholine, heparin and d-tubocurarine. During the War he did important physiological work for the Royal Navy. |
