Title | Perutz, Max Ferdinand: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Description | Citation typed |
Citation | Ph.D. Cambridge Distinguished for his researches into the structure of protein molecules. In particular haemoglobin. His expert skill in manipulating protein crystals and his exhaustive studies of X-ray diffraction by haemoglobin in its various shrinkage states, and of its optical and chemical properties, form a firm basis for the analysis of its structure which has already yielded important and unique results, and holds out much promise for the future. Has also done much to put knowledge of glacier flow on a firmer basis by sponsoring theoretical studies of ice movement under gravity, and measurements of the plastic properties of ice, and by mapping, the flow at all depths of an actual glacier.
