TitleGruneberg, Hans: certificate of election to the Royal Society
DescriptionCitation typed
CitationAdopting as a working hypothesis the idea that each gene has a single primary activity, Dr. Gruneberg has studied in detail the developmental effects of many pleiotropic genes in the mouse. He has shown (in his Animal Genetics and Medicine) [underlined] that mouse mutants throw much light on general mammalian embryology and on human pathology (e.g. revealing the existence of an unsuspected type of erythrocyte). His studies on skeletal polymorphism, and on compensatory development following primary developmental abnormalities, contribute greatly to our understanding of irregular inheritance and of evolutionary processes. His monograph on The Genetics of the Mouse [underlined] is the authoritative text in that field.
