TitleHallpike, Charles Skinner: certificate of election to the Royal Society
DescriptionCitation typed
CitationDistinguished for researches, carried out continuously since the beginning of 1930, in laboratory and clinic, on the anatomy, physiology and pathology of the internal ear and its nervous connexions, making contributions of great importance to knowledge of the fundamental mechanisms of the sensations of hearing and equilibration, and of defects in these due to congenital anomalies, disease or injury. The many publications of Dr. Hallpike with his pupils and collaborators (a list of 65 is attached) show technical achievement in many directions, skill and enterprise of a high order in experiment and theory, and great inventive ingenuity in the design of optical and mechanical apparatus for research and practice in this special field, in the scientific development of which he is internationally recognized as leader.
