Title | Matthews, Paul Taunton: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Description | Certificate of Election |
Citation | Distinguished for his contributions to quantum field theory and the theory of Elementary particles. First to establish the importance of the meson-meson interaction for the renormalisation of meson theories. He showed how to incorporate derivative couplings into the Feynman Dyson scheme. In collaboration with others, he completed the solution of the problem of time-dependent external field and clarified the basis of the functional integration method. In elementary particle theory his contributions have been concerned with the possibility of a covariant treatment of S- and P-wave pion-nucleon scattering, the use of dispersion methods relations for determining the parity of the K-meson-hyperon system and the phenomenological analysis of K-meson scattering. |
