Title | Burbidge, Geoffrey Ronald: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Description | Letter attached to certificate and seven signed citations. |
Citation | Geoffrey Burbidge has made distinguished contributions to both the observational and theoretical development of the theory of the origin of the chemical elements. His work on cosmic radio sources has been of great importance, particularly in making clear the connections between two hitherto disconnected branches of physics, namely cosmic-rays and radioastronomy. Burbidge's work on electrons secondary to the cosmic rays has been of especially outstanding importance in this respect. |
