Title | Jinks, John Leonard: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Description | Citation typed |
Citation | Distinguished for his contributions to the genetics of micro-organisms and to biometrical genetics. His studies of heterokaryosis have thrown new light on the adaptability, variation and population structure of fungi, especially Aspergillus species, in the wild. He has demonstrated both the cytoplasm's changes during development in these fungi and its readjustment through sexual reproduction. He has made many contributions to biometrical genetics, especially to the theory and analysis of diallel crosses. He has taken the lead in developing diallel analysis for application in plant breeding as well as in laboratory studies. Recently (with P.L. Broadhurst) he has put it to use in demonstrating and analysing the complex genetical component in behaviour in rats. A list of publications is attached. |
