Citation | A.J. Young joined I.C.I. at Billingham in 1940 and quickly showed a marked flair for process control and instrumentation. In 1946, he was chosen to co-ordinate all I.C.I. work in this field and to set up and run a new Central Instrument Research Laboratory. Under his close personal direction, this department has had a continuous history of success and has been largely responsible for a widespread use throughout the company of mathematical models in quantitative approach to problems of plant operation and design for the complete or partial automation of many processed with on-line computers. Through his writings, lectures and contributions to conferences Young's ideas and experience have been made widely available and his book "Introduction to Process Control System Design" is an authoritative work much used in Universities and Technical Colleges. |
