Title | Zeeman, Erik Christopher: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Description | Citation typed |
Citation | Distinguished for his contributions to topology, particularly the theory of higher-dimensional knots. Zeeman's pioneering work on combinatorial topology in the early 1960's opened up the subject in a remarkable manner and led to spectacular results. More recently he has made the first serious attempts to apply modern work on dynamical systems to mathematical models of relevance to biology and psychology. Moreover, during the past ten years, he has, by his initiative and example, built up a first-class research school of mathematics at Warwick. |
